OWN schedules ambitious program
Broadway dancers, crime victims, unfaithful spouses and soul-food chefs are coming to OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network.
Six new unscripted series were announced Thursday, though there was no news of the most anticipated OWN series: an Oprah Winfrey show, which is expected to launch in September after her daytime talk show ends.
The new shows include “Confronting …,” documenting the legal mediation process in which victim and offender come together in the hopes of achieving closure; “I Owe You My Life,” dramatic stories of everyday people who take risky actions to protect others and right wrongs; “Louie Spence Dance Project,” following the world-renowned choreographer; “My Mom and Me,” examining unusual mother-daughter relationships; “Sweetie Pies,” about a soul-food restaurant run by a former singer; and “Unfaithful: Stories of Betrayal,” featuring married couples who have survived infidelity.
Extra ‘Office’ hours
Steve Carell will leave “The Office” on April 28 in a supersized episode.
It will air from 9 to 9:50 p.m. Eastern time, followed by an extended version of “Parks and Recreation” until 10:30 p.m., NBC said.
Carell, who plays inept branch manager Michael Scott, announced last year that this would be his last season on the series.
