Letter: Ams fan wishes Nachbaur well, but not his Chiefs

For those who love hockey, last Tuesday night was either perfect or perfectly bitter. Sadly, I fall on the perfectly bitter side of the Highway 395 rivalry between the Tri-City Americans and Spokane Chiefs.

I could expend hours explaining why the rivalry is so intense, but that would just fuel the usual dialogue about who has taken/given worse hits or been on the receiving end of more bad calls.

I do want to wish Don Nachbaur success through the rest of the season. I’d like to say I remember my own years living in Spokane fondly enough (which I do), or that I have friends in Spokane who I love dearly enough (which I do), or that I am a big enough person to also wish the Chiefs success, but sadly I’m not.

For those who love hockey and this ongoing rivalry, I’m sure you’ll understand and – given this season’s turn of events – even forgive me. For ending our season yet again, and for ending up with our best coach ever, I just don’t have it in me.

So best of luck, Don. It couldn’t happen for a better coach.
