Offered The Texas Legends made Bruce Pearl an offer Thursday and are waiting to see if the former Tennessee coach will take over the reins of the NBA D-League team. Legends owner Donnie Nelson presented Pearl with what he labeled the “most aggressive package in D-League history.” Reports have put the offer as high as $500,000 per season.

Chosen The national coach for USA Boxing, Joe Zanders, will be the head coach of the U.S. boxing squad at next summer’s London Olympics. An amateur coach for more than 30 years, Zanders has led U.S. teams at the world championships and was an assistant at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Cleared The French athletics federation cleared middle-distance runners Mehdi Baala and Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad to compete in the world championships which begin Aug. 27 in Daegue, South Korea. The runners, both Olympic medalists, had been provisionally suspended by the FFA after trading punches at the end of the 1,500-meter race in Monaco last month.

Diagnosed LSU assistant coach Steve Kragthorpe has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and is relinquishing his duties as offensive coordinator. Kragthorpe will, however, remain as quarterbacks’ coach while offensive line coach Greg Studrawa has been elevated to offensive coordinator.

Withdrawn Defending champion Matt Bettencourt has withdrawn from the Reno-Tahoe Open because of a rib injury. Bettencourt was 2-under through six at Montreux Golf & Country Club in Reno, Nev., before going down while hitting his drive on the next hole.

Brad Keselowski won’t run in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide race in Ames, Iowa following a head-on crash into a wall at Road Atlanta on Wednesday. Sam Hornish, Jr., will run both qualifying and the race in his place.

Arrested Former NBA player Darius Miles has been arrested after security officers found him carrying a loaded gun at Lambert Airport in St. Louis. Transportation Security Administration workers discovered the gun in X-ray screening Wednesday afternoon.

Charged Former world champion distance runner Liz McColgan will stand trial in Arbroath, Scotland, after being charged with attacking her husband, Peter McColgan, at home on July 12.

Died Former Japan international soccer player Naoki Matsuda died just two days after suffering a cardiac arrest during training in Tokyo. The 34-year-old Matsuda had been in critical condition after collapsing Tuesday during practice with his club, Matsumoto Yamaga.
