Mariners put Wilson on DL, activate Ryan

The Seattle Mariners placed infielder Jack Wilson on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a severely bruised left heel.

Wilson landed awkwardly on first base in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s 5-1 loss to Toronto.

Seattle also activated shortstop Brendan Ryan from the 15-day DL before their night game at Tampa Bay. Ryan had been out since Aug. 4 with a left shoulder injury.

• The New York Yankees placed right-hander Freddy Garcia on the disabled list with an injured finger on his pitching hand and claimed left-hander Aaron Laffey off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

Laffey went 1-1 with a 4.01 ERA in 42 2/3 innings for the Mariners this season.
