In brief: Stolen cameras, TVs found on Craigslist

Spokane Valley police arrested two theft suspects this week after victims found their stolen items on Craigslist.

Dana R. McCauley, 40, is accused of stealing cameras from Wholesale Sports at the Spokane Valley Mall.

Employees told police Monday that a man stole five cameras worth $1,600 in the last week and a half and that the cameras were being sold online. Spokane Valley police property crimes detectives arranged to buy one of the cameras from McCauley and arrested him on theft and trafficking stolen property charges.

On Tuesday, employees at USF Reddaway reported the theft of four or five flat-screen TVs from the business’s loading docks in recent months. One of the TVs was advertised on Craigslist by a relative of a contract security guard. The man said he didn’t know the TV was stolen.

The guard, Aaron D. Edvalson, 31, cooperated with detectives and confessed to stealing four televisions, according to police. He faces theft and stolen property charges.

Woman falls prey to roof-cleaning scam

An elderly Spokane Valley woman apparently fell victim to a recent scam.

The woman told investigators a man knocked on her door and told her that he and a friend had cleared yard debris from her roof because he liked to help people, according to the Spokane Valley Police Department.

They then demanded she pay $200, though she said she never asked to have the work done and it wasn’t completed. However, she said she was frightened and reluctantly paid the man cash after he told her he was leaving town and needed it immediately.

They left in a red 1998 Chevy van with a gray stripe and the word “Gladiator” written on the side. The first man is described as black, 6 feet, 5 inches tall, about 210 pounds and in his mid- to late-40s. The second man is described as white, 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 35 to 45 years old with light brown, braided hair.

Those with information about the two men or who think they may have been the victim of a scam are asked to call (509) 477-3364.
