In brief: Funding available for nonprofits

SPOKANE VALLEY – The city of Spokane Valley is now accepting applications for 2012 Lodging Tax funding from nonprofit organizations that present and/or promote tourism related activities. This is the second round of applications for the 2012 money and organizations that applied the first time are welcome to apply again.

Applications are available on the city’s website at www.spokanevalley.org or at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave. The application deadline is 4 p.m. Jan. 6. Ten copies of each application must be submitted. The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet in January to consider the requests. For more information, call (509) 720-5041.

Modern Electric seeks nominees for board

SPOKANE VALLEY – Modern Electric Water Company is now accepting nominations for its Board of Directors. One position is available, to serve a three-year term.

Nominees must be Modern Electric shareholders. All property owners within Modern Electric’s district are shareholders. The nomination deadline is noon Dec. 30 and the election will be held at the annual meeting on Feb. 25 at the Avenues Social and Corporate Event Center, 9320 E. Mission Ave.

SCRAPS to waive cat adoption fee

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service will waive the adoption fees of all cats six months and older during the month of December.

Adult cats can be adopted for only the license fee of $15 and all cats will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, licensed and will receive a free veterinary examination. Along with their cat adoption special, SCRAPS also has a Pet Pals program for individuals wanting to sponsor.

Also, have your pet’s picture taken with Santa today and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Spokane Valley PetSmart for only $9.95. Half of the proceeds goes to benefit SCRAPS.

Holiday High Tea planned Dec. 11

POST FALLS – Jacklin Arts Cultural Center, 405 N. William St., will celebrate the Christmas season with a Holiday High Tea on Dec. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The event will include full English tea service and a champagne reception. Attendees are invited to wear holiday hats.

Tickets are $40 for general admission and $30 for students.
