Wedman’s 1st point helps Chiefs prevail

EVERETT – And then there were none.

In his 14th game with Spokane, rookie defenseman Cole Wedman collected his first Western Hockey League point Friday night, an assist on rookie Liam Stewart’s second goal of the season, as the Chiefs won 5-2 over the Everett Silvertips.

Wedman is the last of the Chiefs’ skaters to earn at least one point. Only backup goalie Luke Lee-Knight has been blanked.

Stewart’s goal, as he directed in a pass from Marek Kalus at 10:01 of the third period, capped the second of two two-goal bursts the Spokane Chiefs used to pull away and cap a 3-2-1 six-game trip.

The goal came 3:14 after Collin Valcourt knocked in an Anthony Bardero rebound to give Spokane some breathing room after Everett closed to 3-2 in the second.

Blake Gal and Bardero, with his second goal of the night and 16th of the season, scored 1:21 apart midway in the second period to snap a 1-1 tie.

Bardero had scored off the faceoff 7 seconds into a Chiefs power play at 14:55 of the first period to get Spokane even.
