Announced A prosecutor said Wednesday he has decided against filing criminal charges in an on-court brawl involving University of Cincinnati and Xavier basketball players. Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said he made the decision following an investigation that included review of films and interviews with the two teams’ coaches and some players and witnesses. He also said that Xavier center Kenny Frease was satisfied with an apology from Bearcats forward Yancy Gates after the two “reached out to each other privately.” Gates punched Frease in the face during the melee. The 7-foot, 275-pound center fell, bleeding from below his left eye.

Selected Washington State senior Meagan Ganzer was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America honorable mention team. Ganzer, a 6-foot-3 outside hitter from Black Diamond, Wash., was an All-Pac-12 Conference and AVCA All-Pacific Region first-team selection.

Released Football coach Charlie Weis is guaranteed $2.5 million annually over the course of his five-year deal with Kansas, along with incentives that could push the total over $3 million. A copy of the contract was obtained by The Associated Press.

Convicted Four jockeys and two owners were given bans of up to 14 years after being convicted of race-fixing in the British Horseracing Authority’s biggest corruption inquiry. Jimmy Quinn, Kirsty Milczarek, Greg Fairley and Paul Doe were found to be in breach of various rules following an investigation into 10 races in 2009 in which large bets were placed on horses to lose.

Honored Golfer Tom Lehman was voted the Champions Tour player of the year after a season in which he won three times and won the Charles Schwab Cup.

• Sixty years after he wrote from the first of 210 major championships, Dan Jenkins is headed for the World Golf Hall of Fame. Jenkins, 82, will be only the sixth media member in the hall when he is inducted May 7 at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla.
