Cougars’ Enquist deserves respect

I generally read the sports section cover to cover. I recently read John Blanchette’s column after a WSU basketball game in which John mentioned that one of the WSU players, Charlie Enquist, had a tremendous game, recording a double-double. Blanchette mentioned that “bless his heart, good ol’ Charlie wasn’t likely to do that again.”

I work at WSU and I have had the pleasure of meeting Enquist first-hand. He recorded his second double-double tonight against Santa Clara. This happened exactly two games after the first time.

I had to mull how someone with all the athletic ability of a slug (this would be your writer) had the temerity to pass judgment on such a fine, hard-working young man. It might be an interesting side note that Enquist is majoring in mechanical engineering as well as contributing to our basketball program. He also worked his way from a walk-on into a starting player. Just because Blanchette can write doesn’t mean that he knows squat about how hard these kids work, the sacrifices they make or their level of commitment.
