U-Hi’s Markin state champion
Competing in her first year of high school gymnastics, University senior Cady Markin made a splash at the Washington 3A/2A state gymnastics meet, scoring 37.3 points to win the all-around title on Friday night in Tacoma.
Markin also advanced to today’s individual finals in all four events.
Joining Markin atop the all-around standings were Alana Norman of Shadle Park and Lakeside’s Davina Carr, who tied for second with 37.02 points. Carr was the top qualifier in the bars where she will be joined by Norman, who was fourth. Hailey Barry of Shadle qualified fifth in the floor exercise.
Mead’s Cadie Pratt took second place in the 4A all-around.
Pratt, who finished .475 points out of first place to all-around champion Kristine Wong of Newport, will compete today in the bars and beam events individually.
The Panthers, led by Pratt’s 36.825 in the all-around, finished the team scoring in fourth place with 166.18 points.
Earning the team title was Newport with 174 points while Todd Beamer took second with 173.45 and Thomas Jefferson third (170.88).
