Replace plastic with a reusable BPA free container

Overpriced, disposable plastic water bottles are my last choice for drinking on the go, but taking along a reusable, BPA-free container to carry water or any other beverage is especially convenient when hot weather arrives. Unfortunately, a reusable water bottle can be a safe haven for germs and bacteria as anyone who’s ever discovered mold or other residue knows. And, to complicate things, I sometimes want to carry something that isn’t a beverage. Like fruit or cereal. There are days that I hit the floor running and breakfast or lunch is on-the-go. That’s why I was interested when I heard about the new H20 Duo two-part bottle by Seattle Sports. The stainless-steel bottle chills quickly. It has a wide neck and no straw and that makes it easier to clean. It also comes with a glow-in-the-dark removable band so you can find it after the sun goes down. (I admit I rolled my eyes when I saw the band. Why would I need that?) But the thing that completely won me over is the versatility. The bottle can be used for water or other beverages by simply unscrewing the top like any other container. But, the Duo has another trick. The top half unscrews to become a cup or bowl. And that’s how I’ve been using it. At night I can fill the stainless container with fruit and put it in either the freezer or the refrigerator. In the morning I simply grab it and go. When I want a break I open the top and pour a “bowl” full of cold or frozen grapes or berries. I love it. Although I didn’t really think much of the glow-in-the-dark band, it actually came in handy. I dropped the bottle in the park and didn’t miss it until after sunset. As we scrambled around picking up our picnic supplies I spotted it where it had rolled away under a bench. No more eye-rolling here. There are a lot of green choices for water bottles and reusable containers. I have quite a few in the cabinet. But I haven’t found a fruit-cup I like better than my new H20 Duo.
