Champion for hire

Only a guy who is coming off an Indianapolis 500 victory can have the kind of perspective that Dan Wheldon has about his uncertain racing future. “For an unemployed guy I did pretty good Sunday,” Wheldon quipped. Wheldon (pictured right) took advantage of a last-turn crash by JR Hildebrand to steal a victory last Sunday at the Indy 500. Driving for Bryan Herta’s team in what could be his first and only race of the year, Wheldon won his second 500 and earned more than $2.5 million for himself and his team. With that kind of payday, it’s not such a big deal that he doesn’t know whether he’s going to run in the June 11 Firestone Twin 275s at Texas Motor Speedway.
