Marc Whipple graduates from basic training

Air National Guard Airman Marc Whipple recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2005 graduate of Gonzaga Prep and is the son of Pete and Michael Whipple, of Spokane.

• Cameron Kiesz , a member of Boy Scout Troop 888, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank given in the Boy Scouts. Kiesz joins his three brothers and dad, who also achieved the rank Eagle Scout.

For his project, Kiesz built an eight-sided circular reading bench for the Ritzville Public Library, along with two picnic tables for the City of Ritzville that are being used at the Ritzville Golf Course.

Brother Cory received his Eagle Scout in 2007 for building six picnic tables for the Ritzville Bronco Boosters booth at the Wheatland Community Fairgrounds. Brother Brian was awarded his Eagle Scout in 2005 for building a 30-foot backstop for the Ritzville High School baseball field and erecting a side fence by the dugouts. Oldest brother Brady became an Eagle Scout in 2003 when he raised the Ritzville street signs and repainted the posts. And Kiesz’s dad, a member of Troop 831, received the rank of Eagle Scout in 1974 after he completed his project of beautification of Ritzville’s local cemetery.

Kiesz is a senior at Ritzville High School and will graduate June 5. His brothers and his dad are graduates of Ritzville High School. He is the son of Randy and Michele Kiesz, of Ritzville.

• Two local residents graduated from the Direct Fire Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consisted of Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training.

Army Pvt. Derek Kilbourne is a 2009 graduate of University High School and the son of Bernie Kilbourne, of Spokane Valley.

Army Pvt. Reymond Rumbaut is the son of Andy Rumbaut and Laura Hendrickson, of Spokane Valley, and graduated from University High School in 2010.
