In brief: Chamber to host Candidate Fair

SPOKANE COUNTY – Dozens of people have filed to run for elected offices in Spokane County in November. Some are familiar faces, but others are unknowns. The Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce will host a Candidate Fair on June 23 to introduce those running in the August primary to the community.

The event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place. Candidates from all over the county are invited. The first 15 candidates to call and reserve a display table will be guaranteed five minutes at the microphone to introduce themselves. The cost for a display table is $50. The event will be free for the public to attend.

Celebrate Flag Day today in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD – The 101st annual Fairfield Flag Day celebration is today in the small town located south of Spokane Valley on Highway 27. Events begin at 7 a.m., but things really start hopping at 10:30 a.m. The Flag Flyin’ Fun Run will start in the Lower Park at 8 a.m., with late registration beginning at 7. The fireman’s breakfast will be served in the community center at 304 E. Main St. from 7 to 9:30 a.m.

The kids’ parade starts down Main Street at 10:30 a.m., followed by the grand parade at 11 a.m. After the parade, lunch will be served in the community center. Thiel Park will be busy all day, with music, a bouncing castle, vendors, food, crafts and more. Adults can also check out the beer garden that opens at 11:30 a.m. and doesn’t close until dark.

The local stores and the Fairfield Museum will be open during the event.

Last breakfast till fall at McIntosh Grange

ROCKFORD – Celebrate Father’s Day early on Sunday with breakfast at the McIntosh Grange in Rockford. The grange hosts a monthly breakfast and this will be the last breakfast until the fall. The menu includes waffles, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, fruit and beverages.

The meal will be served from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the grange, 319 S. First St. in Rockford.

The cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children.
