Gatsby’s alumni from ’70s, ’80s gather to perform this weekend

Several bands that rocked Spokane’s former Gatsby’s nightclub in the late 1970s and ’80s are gathering for a pair of reunion shows this weekend.

ValHalla, RumbleBoy, Innersanctum, Flash, Wiser Sin, Lorpan (featuring members of VonDutch), The Edge and Black Rose are among the acts playing a “Gatsby’s Reunion” on Saturday from 3 to 11 p.m. at Players & Spectators, 12828 E. Sprague Ave. Cover is $10.

They’ll do it all over again Sunday from 3 to 11 p.m. at the Bigfoot Pub & Eatery, 9115 N. Division St., as a benefit for former Gatsby’s owner Larry Spratt.

Spratt, who now owns the Bigfoot, was left a paraplegic as a result of a recent acccident. There’s no cover for Sunday’s show, but donations will be accepted.

The reunited acts are coming from as far away as Canada, California and Arizona, said Black Rose singer Curran Dempsey, now a Spokane attorney.

“None of us has the bodies like we had back then. We won’t be wearing the Spandex and leather like we used to,” he said. “But everybody is really excited about it.”
