SPOKANE COUNTY – Volunteers are needed for Meals on Wheels Spokane to deliver hot, nutritious meals to seniors in need in the community.

Credit unions seek children’s books
SPOKANE COUNTY – During the month of March, local banks and credit unions will accept new children’s books for the seventh annual “Banking for Books” book drive. The books will be distributed to children in need through Page Ahead’s Book for Kids Program.
Books may be donated at area branches of Banner Bank; Inland Northwest Bank; Wells Fargo Bank; Safeway Federal Credit Union; Spokane Federal Credit Union and the downtown and Millwood Spokane Media Federal Credit Union locations.

Wishing Star ‘Taste’ fundraiser Friday
AIRWAY HEIGHTS – Wishing Star Foundation Hosts will host the fifth annual “Taste Spokane” on Friday at the Northern Quest Resort and Casino, 100 N. Hayford Road, in Airway Heights, from 6 to 10 p.m.
The evening will include tastes from Catacombs Pub, Dry Fly Distillery, Pixie Dust Chocolates and Pend d’Oreille Winery. Each vendor will bring a signature drink or dish to represent its establishment. The fundraiser also will include an opportunity for guests to donate to specific wishes. Donors will be entered into a drawing to win one of three raffles.
Tickets are $30 per person and proceeds will benefit Wishing Star, a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to those ages 3 to 21 who have life-threatening illnesses. The event is open to the public.

Tropical plant sale will be Saturday
MANITO/CANNON HILL – The Friends of Manito will have a tropical plant sale on Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Manito Meeting Room, east of the Gaiser Conservatory, at Manito Park.
The sale will include elephant ears, begonias, dwarf bananas, variegated gingers and anthuriums.
Proceeds from the event will be used to help improve Manito Park.
