Gallery at a glance: ‘Telling the American Story’

What: Group exhibit in conjunction with Eastern Washington University’s Get Lit! literary festival, featuring collaborative works by local poets and artists. Included are the installations “Things We Throw Away,” about the creative process; “Depot,” examining the life of a community through a train depot; and “Dreaming Becomes Reality,” photographs and poems. Also featured are a film based on true stories from the Battle of the Bulge; “Linguistic Anthropology,” an intimate portrait inspired by the Native American Salish language; and an intergenerational group portrait.

When: Opening reception Friday, 5-8 p.m. as part of the kickoff for Get Lit’s “Big Read” communitywide reading of the Vietnam War book “The Things They Carried,” by Tim O’Brien; local military veterans will share their experiences. The exhibit continues through April 29, Mondays, 8 a.m.-9 p.m. and Tuesdays through Fridays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
