U.S. and allied fighter jets enforcing the no-fly zone over Libya will be relying on KC-135 tankers from Fairchild Air Force Base for their aerial refueling. Five of the base’s tankers were dispatched Saturday to North Africa as part of Operation Odyssey Dawn, and a sixth is scheduled to leave Wednesday morning, according to The 92nd Air Refueling Wing. The tankers extend the amount of time fighter jets can remain in the air by refueling in flight. The tankers will be flown and maintained by Fairchild-based crews with 92nd Air Refueling Wing and the 141st Air National Guard. The two units share equipment at Fairchild.
