Mother’s Day events
• The Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Road, will present a Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The all-you-can-eat buffet includes champagne, an omelet station and dessert bar, children’s activities and a gift for moms. Community open house
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,10405 W. Melville Road, Cheney, will present a public open house today from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will include information about the Family History Center, the cannery, emergency preparedness, the cultural hall, family services and the Relief Society. Peace Party

Leadership Prayer Breakfast
The 50th annual Leadership Prayer Breakfast, honoring local elected officials, will be Friday at 7 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel Spokane City Center, 322 N. Spokane Falls Court. The keynote speaker is the Rev. Noel Castellanos, a Whitworth University graduate who has made a career as a teacher, speaker, community leader and author. His book “A Heart for the Community: New Models for Urban and Suburban Ministry” explores bringing a biblical philosophy to developing under-resourced communities.
