Nine graduate basic training

Nine area residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Air Force Airman Kimberly Fritz is the daughter of Robert and Tammy Fritz of Spokane Valley. She graduated in 2010 from East Valley High School.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Danileo Herrera is a 2009 Medical Lake High School graduate and the son of Leonora Sanchez of San Leandro, Calif.

Air Force Airman Garrett Sicafoose is the son of Melissa and stepson of Marcus Passer of Spokane.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Timothy Wright graduated in 2008 from Ferris High School and is the son of Steven Wright of Lacrosse, Wash.

Air Force Airman Lacrisha Davis is the daughter of William Davis of Spokane and is a 2008 graduate of Lakeside High School in Nine Mile Falls.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Kevin McKenzie graduated in 2001 from Gonzaga Prep and is the son of Terri McKenzie of Spokane.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Daisy Mills is the daughter of Marka Mills of Spokane and graduated in 2010 from Shadle Park High School.

Air Force Airman Benjamin Auston is the son of Mike Auston and Leesa Anderson, both of Spokane.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Leah Nay graduated in 2003 from University High School and is the daughter of Gregory Nay of Valleyford and Lory Nay of Spokane.

• Air Force Senior Airman Brett Collins graduated from the Combat Control School at Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville, N.C.

The airman, a combat control apprentice with more than nine years of military service, is assigned to the Special Tactics Training Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

He is the son of Jerry and Mary Collins of Spokane, and is a 2001 Gonzaga Prep graduate.

• Air Force Maj. John Stephenson has graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., earning a master’s degree in National Securities Studies. His next duty assignment will be to the office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D.C.

He is the son of Gloria Collins of Spokane and Larry Stephenson of Kennewick. Stephenson graduated in 1986 from Kamiakin High School in Kennewick.

• Two local residents graduated from Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss. Both graduates earned silver wings with an aeronautical rating of pilot in the Air Force.

Air Force 2nd Lt. Stephen MacDonald is the son of Doug MacDonald and Rafaela Ortiz of Spokane and graduated from West Valley High School in 2005.

Air Force 2nd Lt. Nikolaus Krause graduated in 2005 from Gonzaga Prep and is the son of Neil and Brigid Krause of Spokane.

• Two Spokane residents graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Army Reserve Pvt. Barry Culp-Lefler graduated in 2010 from Havermale High School and is the son of Stephanie Culp of Spokane.

Army Pvt. Lincoln Burgess is the son of Paulette Burgess of Spokane.

• Derek Vasquez of Troop 423 was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest given in the Boy Scouts.

For his project, Vasquez headed the construction of concrete tee pads at the disc golf course at Farragut State Park in Idaho. The job consisted of digging out and leveling pad areas, framing the pads with wood boards, pouring concrete and leveling, texturing and edging the concrete.

Vasquez, a sophomore at Central Valley High School, is the son of Dave and Jackie Vasquez of Spokane Valley.

• The Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America presented the Silver Beaver Award to Tim Grubham of St. Maries, Idaho, for his service as an outstanding Scout Leader for the past 15 years.

Grubham served as Scout Master of Troop 443.
