Preps roundup: East Valley places third in State 2A boys soccer

Adam Talley did his part for the offense and Bridger Peres threw a wall up around the goal, guiding the East Valley Knights (18-3) to a 2-0 victory over the Hockinson Hawks in Saturday’s match for third and fourth place at the State 2A boys soccer tournament at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

Talley scored a pair of unassisted goals in the first half. Peres made sure they stood up by denying every Hawks shot on goal.

Talley found the net in the 26th and 29th minutes.

Lynden, which defeated EV 1-0 on Friday, topped Fife 2-0 in the championship match.

Baseball

Mitch Gueller struck out 12 in five innings – including six straight in the second and third innings – and the W.F. West Bearcats of Chehalis defeated the Clarkston Bantams 12-4 to finish in third place at the State 2A tournament at Yakima County Stadium.

The Bearcats (25-1) had 13 hits on the day and took advantage of nine Clarkston errors.

Brady Arnone went 2 for 4 with a double and drove in a run for the Bantams (20-8). Clarkston placed fourth.

Tennis

Katijene Stime of Mead lost to Kamiak’s Sally Park 7-5, 6-1 and settled for seventh place in girls singles play at the State 4A tournament in Vancouver.

Park nabbed fourth place with the victory.

Gonzaga Prep’s Riley Poppy and Alex Hattemer also had to settle for seventh place in boys doubles action after losing 6-4, 6-2 to Jacob Buckley and Mark Bright of Union.

• 2A: Ashley Meyers and Roni Hewett of Clarkston finished fourth in state tournament play in Seattle after knocking off Sehome’s Katie Adams and Morgan Sherif 6-3, 6-4 in girls double play.

Jordan Jones and Ryan Adams of Clarkston placed fifth in boys doubles after defeating Connor Sears and Hunter Sears of Ephrata in straight sets.

Clarkston’s Drew Adams placed eighth in boys singles after losing to Sehome’s Avery West.

Clarkston’s girls finished second in the team race, three points behind winner Interlake.

• 1A/2B/1B: Kevin Murphy of Reardan defeated Troy Dunbar of Zillah 6-3, 6-4 to finish fourth in boys singles play in the state tournament in Yakima.

Davenport’s Miranda Mielke beat Shaylyn Goodall of Omak 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 to place fifth in girls singles.

Colville’s Liselotte Doggen and Erin Little knocked off Emily Mankowski and Tailar Kennedy of Tenino 6-1, 6-2 to finish fifth in girls doubles play.
