Education Notebook: Bemiss wins award for math

Bemiss Elementary School students were recently honored when their school was named a 2011 Title I Washington State Distinguished School by the state superintendent’s office. The students’ outstanding achievement in math earned Bemiss a $5,000 award.

“In partnership with our students and their families, our Bemiss staff remains committed to providing whatever it takes to continue our goal of assisting every student, every day, in fostering positive student achievement,” Bemiss Principal Jennifer Keck said in a press release. “We understand it takes a village to support our kids.”

Open house planned

St. George’s School will conduct an open house Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Families interested in having their kids attend the private K-12 school next fall are invited to tour the campus and classrooms and learn about the school’s opportunities for students. Parents interested in the Upper School, for grades 9-12, are invited to attend an informational session from 1:30 to 3 p.m., held in the Upper School Library conference room. The session will include details on the school’s international exchange programs, college counseling services, social programs and scholarship opportunities.

To reserve a space for the Upper School informational session and for more information, call (509) 466-1636, ext. 304 or email debbie.duvoisin@sgs.org.
