Reardan wins District 2B volleyball title

Kelsey Moos had 15 kills and 11 blocks as defending state champion Reardan secured the District 7 2B top seed to the state tournament with a 25-21, 25-13, 25-21 win over Colfax in the district title match Saturday at Colfax High School.

Chantel Heath added 33 assists and 23 digs for the Indians.

The match was a battle of past state champions. Reardan won last year and Colfax won in 2009.

The 2011 state tournament will begin Friday at the Yakima SunDome.

The Bulldogs also earned a spot in the state tournament with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-13 win over Northwest Christian. Amara Huber served 19 for 19 with two aces to lead Colfax.

Taylor Larsen had 11 kills and Emily Bruya passed out 19 assists for the Bulldogs.

Northwest Christian, which beat Lind-Ritzville/Sprague and Davenport earlier in the day, was eliminated.

District 7 1B

Almira/Coulee-Hartline dominated the final set and beat Wilbur-Creston 3-2 in the district title match at Northwest Christian. Game scores were 16-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 15-3.

The Warriors earned the district’s top seed to the state tournament while the Wildcats advanced as the No. 2 seed.

Madeline Isaak had 10 kills and 12 assists to lead Almira/Coulee-Hartline. Jordan Jones served seven straight points in the fifth set for the Warriors.

Kaelee Reed had a match-high 13 kills for Wilbur-Creston.

The State 1B tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at the Yakima SunDome.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline and Wilbur-Creston have had recent success at state. The Warriors swept Christian Faith to win the title last year and the Wildcats knocked off Tekoa-Oakesdale for third place.

This will be the fourth straight appearance at state for ACH.

District 9 1B

Colton, which finished in the top five at state the past two years, will be returning to the state tournament after a sweep of Tekoa-Oakesdale in the district title match at Pullman High School.

Game scores were 26-24, 25-20, 25-11.

The Wildcats took third place at state in 2009 and fifth last year.

Tekoa-Oakesdale, which took third at state last year, also will be returning to the state tournament.

The Nighthawks beat Garfield-Palouse 27-25, 25-16, 25-14 to earn the second and final seed out of District 9.

Garfield-Palouse had to beat St. John-Endicott and Pomeroy to set up its match against Tekoa-Oakesdale.
