Roundup: West Valley boys open season with win over Moscow
Jordan Gassman scored a game-high 14 points and Morgan Byrd added 12 points and 10 rebounds to spark the West Valley Eagles to a 49-38 victory over the visiting Moscow Bears in season-opening nonleague boys action Saturday.
West Valley broke open a close game by outscoring Moscow 29-14 in the second half.
• Kyle Guice finished with nine points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks to power the Lake City Timberwolves (1-0) to a 40-32 victory over the visiting Wenatchee Panthers in nonleague play.
Bobby Traverse and Justin Pratt each scored eight for Lake City.
Girls
Brittnay Davis scored six of her 11 points in a dominating third quarter and the visiting Moscow Bears (1-3) went on to post a 54-49 nonleague victory over the West Valley Eagles (0-1).
Moscow, which trailed 25-15 at halftime, outscored West Valley 19-4 in the third quarter.
• Jasmyn Smith tossed in a game-high 18 points, Jansen Butler scored 16 and Hailey Jackson added 15 points to propel the Lake City Timberwolves (2-1) to a 60-47 win over the visiting Wenatchee Panthers in a nonleaguer.
