Prep roundup: Collins, Willson win at Bullpup Invitational
Deer Park’s Dayde Collins was the individual champion, but Central Valley edged the Stags for the team title at the Bullpup Invitational cross country meet at Finch Arboretum on Saturday.
Collins completed the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 36 seconds. Gonzaga Prep’s Conor McCandless (16:39) was second and East Valley’s Cody Edwards (16:51) was third.
The Bears had five runners finish inside the top 15. CV’s Corey Hunter was fifth at 17:09 and Logan Giese was eighth at 17:16.
Colfax’s Morgan Willson dominated the girls race. The senior finished first in 18:52, more than a minute ahead of second-place finisher Sanne Holland (19:58) of Cheney.
G-Prep’s Cyra Carlson (20:12) and Taylor Cherry (20:14) finished third and fourth, respectively.
• The Coeur d’Alene boys and girls both won decisively at the William Johnson Sandpoint Invitational at Riley Creek in Sandpoint.
Cody Curtis took first place for the Vikings boys, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 15:53. Lake City’s Jake Finney (16:15) was second and Bonners Ferry’s Jacob Callister (16:17) was third.
Timberlake’s Ashley George won the girls race in 18:39. Coeur d’Alene runners, led by freshman Josie Brown (18:43), finished second through eighth.
• Behind Kai Wilmot’s fifth-place finish, the North Central boys took the team title at the Richland Invitational at Carmichael Middle School. Wilmot completed the 3-mile course in 15:25.30. Kamiakin’s Anthony Armstrong was the individual champion in 14:52.03.
Central Valley took fourth place in the girls race. Riverside’s Jess Mildes was the top local finisher with her sixth-place time of 18:17.76.
Boys soccer
Lake City 1, Post Falls 1: Christian Guzman’s unassisted goal in the 74th minute knotted the game at 1 and the Timberwolves and Trojans played to a draw in an Inland Empire League 5A matchup in Post Falls.
Timmy Mueller scored of an assist from Matt Howard in the 28th minute to give Post Falls a 1-0 advantage.
The Trojans dominated the action – outshooting the Timberwolves 12-4 – but couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities.
Post Falls is 4-0-1 in the IEL and Lake City is 2-2-1.
Bonners Ferry 6, Orofino 0: Keaton Tremble and Andre Zarate scored two goals apiece as the Badgers (5-6-1, 3-0) blanked the Maniacs in an Intermountain League game in Bonners Ferry. The Badgers scored four of their goals in the first half.
Girls soccer
Bonners Ferry 3, Orofino 1: Liz Racer scored twice to lead the Badgers past the visiting Maniacs in an Intermountain League game. Amanda Riley and Racer scored second-half goals to break up a 1-all halftime tie.
