EWU hockey ignored

The past few years The Spokesman-Review has chosen to, for the most part, ignore the EWU hockey team and its state-of-the-art facility.

You’ve used the reasoning that hockey there was just a “club” sport and not worthy of mentioning in a consistent manner.

The rink is by far the best that any opponent the Eagles have faced have been given the chance to play in. David Early and his staff maintain a top-notch venue and visiting teams arrive with a wide-eyed disbelief that such a place exists. Home games are sellouts.

This year, things have changed. EWU plays in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League. Definitely not a “club” sport.

The caliber of players is a step up from previous competition. Players arriving at Eastern this year come from as far away as Ohio, Manitoba, California and Alaska to supplement local talent.

Please give them some consistent coverage. I’m sure readers will be much more interested in the EWU hockey team than your choice of non-local or less-than-important sports coverage.
