In brief: Workshops teach about tree care

WEST HILLS/EAST CENTRAL – Spokane Urban Forestry, The Lands Council, Community Canopy and the Spokane Conservation District is celebrating October as NeighborWoods Month with workshops to educate residents on planting trees and keeping them healthy.

On Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., arborist Jeff Perry will share how to properly plant trees and other woody plants. The free workshop will be held at the Finch Arboretum at 3404 W. Woodland Blvd.

The Volunteers In Pruning training program will be Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Spokane Conservation District, 10 N. Havana St. The workshops are free.

Group offers free dump passes

NORTHWEST – The Northwest Neighborhood Association will hand out free dump passes for residents, available at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the COPS Northwest Shop, 2215 W. Wellesley Ave. A limited number of Clean Green passes will also be available.

The northwest neighborhood covers the area west of Ash Street to the Spokane River, bounded by Belt Street and Indiana Avenue on the south, Francis Avenue on the north to Fairview, including the Westgate and Northwest Terrace neighborhoods.

Dump passes are issued on a first come first serve basis and can be used for two weeks after issue. Dates should be verified when pass is issued.
