Central Valley wins GSL title
Central Valley wrapped up the Greater Spokane League girls soccer title Friday with a 3-1 victory at Mt. Spokane.
Savannah Hoekstra, Natalie Middleton and Sarah Grozdanich scored for the Bears (8-1).
The Bears earned the top seed to the District 8 4A tournament and will play No. 2 Gonzaga Prep (8-1) at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Joe Albi Stadium. The winner earns the top seed to the state tournament.
• Hannah Caudill, Colleen Lindsay and Giulia Oliva all scored to lead Gonzaga Prep to a 3-1 win over visiting University (5-4). Despite the loss, the Titans secured the top seed in the District 8 3A tournament and will have a first-round bye and automatic berth to the regional tournament.
• Shadle Park (3-6) scored twice in each half and beat North Central (1-8) 4-0 at Merkel Field for the third and final spot in the 3A district. Tiara Pajimola had a goal and an assist for the Highlanders, who will take on Mt. Spokane at 6 p.m. Monday at Albi Stadium in a loser-out game.
• Abbi Maurer scored twice as host Lewis and Clark (7-2) secured the third seed to 4A districts with a 4-1 win over Rogers (0-9) at Hart Field. The Tigers will play Mead at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Albi Stadium in a loser-out contest. Mead (6-3) beat host Ferris (3-6) 1-0 in their regular-season finale.
• Katie Wee scored two goals and Courtney Hossfield had a goal and two assists as West Valley (8-4) blanked Deer Park (3-9) 7-0 in a Great Northern League season-ending match at West Valley.
Volleyball
Darby Santos had 23 kills and four aces as Shadle Park beat visiting University 27-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21 in a Greater Spokane League match.
Shadle Park, University and North Central tied at 4-5. A coin toss will determine the No. 2 seed to the District 8 3A tournament and the other two teams will play Monday at a neutral site in a loser-out game to determine the No. 3 seed.
Mt. Spokane (8-1) is No. 1.
• Central Valley defeated visiting North Central 20-25, 25-18, 25-12, 16-25, 15-10. Sasha Montgomery had 16 kills for the Bears.
No. 3 seed CV will play at No. 2 Gonzaga Prep on Wednesday at the District 8 4A.
