Opposed Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said the conference is not actively seeking new members. Speaking to reporters before Friday night’s football game between Arizona State and No. 21 Missouri, Scott said he would prefer the Pac-12 remain at 12 members instead of expanding to 16.

Placed The Seattle Sounders FC placed backup goalkeeper Terry Boss on the disabled list, ending his season due to a concussion. Boss was hurt on Sept. 2 while playing for the Puerto Rico national team in a 2012 World Cup qualifier against St. Kitts and Nevis. It was his second concussion in less than two months after suffering a head injury during the Sounders’ exhibition loss against Manchester United in July.

Fired Ohio State has fired Olympic champion Paul Hamm following his Saturday arrest in Columbus, Ohio, on assault charges. The termination is effective immediately, athletic director Gene Smith said in a statement. Hamm had been an assistant gymnastics coach at the school since June.

Apologized Miami quarterback Jacory Harris publicly apologized to the university and its fans for his role in an extra-benefits scandal and acknowledged making mistakes as a freshman. It’s the first time Harris had spoken out about the investigation since the NCAA ordered him and seven other football players to sit out at least one game for taking gifts from former booster and convicted Ponzi scheme architect Nevin Shapiro.

Announced Phoenix Suns president and chief executive Rick Welts is leaving the team to pursue other interests. Welts, the first openly gay senior executive in pro sports, announced he is leaving the team on Sept. 15 for personal reasons. Welts joined the Suns in 2002 as president and had the additional title of CEO the past two seasons.

Suspended South Carolina freshman receiver Damiere Byrd has been suspended four games by the NCAA for his involvement with a mentoring organization. In addition to sitting out games, the NCAA said Byrd must also pay back $2,700 in impermissible benefits he and his family received from a booster during his recruitment.

Reinstated Suspended Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso has been reinstated for today’s home opener against Nevada. Alonso was suspended indefinitely by Ducks coach Chip Kelly following an alcohol-related offense in the offseason.
