Reprimanded San Jose State coach Mike MacIntyre has been reprimanded by the WAC for going onto the field to argue with officials during a game. MacIntyre came onto the field to argue the spot of the ball in the closing minutes of a 17-14 loss to Nevada last Saturday. The Wolf Pack were given a first down that allowed them to run out the clock.
Sidelined Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who lost his starting job after the second game, will miss the rest of the season for the No. 19 Longhorns after having surgery on his right throwing shoulder. Gilbert was hurt in the first game against Rice but the injury was not disclosed until Tuesday, the day he had surgery. Gilbert started the next game against BYU, was pulled in the second quarter and demoted to third string last week.
Rejoins Denver forward Danilo Gallinari rejoined his former Italian team Olimpia Milano, agreeing to play until the NBA lockout ends. Gallinari played for Olimpia from 2005 to 2008 before being drafted sixth overall by the New York Knicks in 2008. In February, the Knicks traded him to the Nuggets in a three-way deal.
Reconsidered A panel of three federal judges indicated they were having second thoughts about their ruling last week that Carl Lewis, the nine-time Olympic gold medalist who has had a bumpy entry into New Jersey politics, was eligible to be on the ballot for a state Senate seat. The same three judges from the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals asked for additional arguments, posed more questions and promised a new ruling soon in the complicated saga. Lewis, a Democrat, is trying to run in the 8th Legislative District, a Republican stronghold in New Jersey’s outer Philadelphia suburbs.
Suspended Fresno State defensive lineman Tristan Okpalaugo has been suspended for the first half of the Bulldogs’ next game for kicking an opponent. Okpalaugo will miss the first half of Saturday’s game at Idaho.
• Starting wide receiver Trey Franks was suspended indefinitely by No. 1 Oklahoma for an unspecified violation of team rules.
