Monday’s baseball box scores

AMERICAN

Orioles 6, Red Sox 3

Boston found another way to lose, this time on a broken-bat single and an inside-the-park homer, and its loss in Baltimore allowed Tampa Bay to pull even in the wild-card race. The Red Sox, who led by 9 games on Sept. 3, have now lost 17 of their last 22 games. With the score tied at 2-all in the sixth inning, Boston starter Josh Beckett (13-7) allowed four runs in an uprising that began with Vladimir Guerrero becoming the career hits leader among Dominican-born players. Guerrero singled for his 2,587th hit, passing Julio Franco.

Astros 5, Cards 4 (10)

St. Louis missed out on a chance to join Atlanta atop the wild-card standings when Brian Bogusevic scored on Angel Sanchez’s bunt in the 10th inning, giving Houston a victory over the Cardinals in Houston. St. Louis rallied from three runs down to force extra innings, but Bogusevic doubled off Octavio Dotel (3-3) in the 10th and advanced on Jason Bourgeois’ bunt. Sanchez then dropped a bunt in front of the plate, and Bogusevic charged home as Dotel mishandled his attempt to flip the ball to catcher Yadier Molina with his glove.

Matt Kemp hit a three-run home run to power Los Angeles to a victory over Arizona in Phoenix. Kemp added to his RBI lead and took over the lead in home runs but his bid for the Triple Crown may be out of reach as he trails the Mets’ Jose Reyes and the Brewers’ Ryan Braun in the race for the batting title after going 1 for 4. With two games remaining, Reyes and Braun are tied at .334, while Kemp is batting .324.
