Hired TCU has hired Trent Johnson as its new men’s basketball coach. Johnson replaces Jim Christian and will lead the Frogs into the Big 12 Conference next season. Johnson’s introduction came a day after he resigned from LSU, where he spent the past four seasons. He has a 226-185 career record, having taken Stanford and Nevada to the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament before going to LSU. Christian, who had been at TCU the past four seasons, is taking the open job at Ohio University. The Horned Frogs are moving from the Mountain West Conference to the Big 12.

Out Hornets starting point guard Jarrett Jack will miss the rest of the NBA season because of a stress fracture in his right foot. Jack had missed the Hornets’ last three games before the club announced hours before hosting the Los Angeles Lakers that Jack would not recover in time to play before the season ended. Jack moved into a starting role when Chris Paul was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.

• Florida star linebacker Ronald Powell could miss the football season after tearing a ligament in his left knee. Coach Will Muschamp announced the extent of Powell’s injury. The junior pass-rushing specialist was injured in Saturday’s spring game.

Declared Kansas star forward Thomas Robinson is declaring for the NBA draft and will forgo his senior season. Robinson made the formal announcement, with coach Bill Self by his side. Robinson, the first unanimous first-team All-American since Blake Griffin, led the Jayhawks to the national championship game against Kentucky, where they lost 67-59. He averaged 17.9 points and 11.8 rebounds per game this season and led the nation with 27 double-doubles. Other players announcing that they will leave college for the NBA draft include Baylor forward Perry Jones III, Oregon State guard Jared Cunningham, Vanderbilt’s John Jenkins, and Texas A&M’s Khris Middleton.

Staying Michigan star Trey Burke is staying with the Wolverines instead of entering the NBA draft. Burke was weighing his options after a superb freshman season, but said he will stick around. The 5-foot-11 point guard averaged a team-high 14.8 points per game and looked comfortable from the start against Big Ten competition.

Returned Vancouver Canucks leading scorer Daniel Sedin returned to practice after missing nine games with a concussion. Sedin was on the ice before his teammates began their scheduled workout and remained with them, although there was no indication he would be ready when the Canucks open the playoffs Wednesday against the Los Angeles Kings. Sedin led Vancouver with 30 goals before being elbowed by Duncan Keith in a loss to Chicago on March 21. Keith was suspended five games for the hit.
