Sherritt earns second CFL award

Former Eastern Washington University linebacker J.C. Sherritt (Pullman High) was named the Canadian Football League’s defensive player of the week after registering a game-high 10 tackles during the Edmonton Eskimos’ 23-22 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Sherritt, who also won the award earlier this season, leads the league with 41 tackles.

• Spokane Shock defensive back/kick returner Terrance Sanders was named to the Arena Football League’s All-Ironman team.

Sanders had 76 unassisted tackles and seven interceptions during the season, despite missing four games with a wrist injury.

Women’s soccer

Western Athletic Conference coaches picked the University of Idaho to finish fifth in the nine-team league in their preseason poll.

The Vandals picked up 32 points. Denver, with six first-place votes and 62 points, was the top choice.

Idaho senior forward Chelsea Small was named preseason offensive player of the year. Senior midfielder Jill Flockhart and senior goalkeeper Liz Boyden also made the preseason All-WAC team.
