Obituary: Yanzick, Kenneth Keith “Duck”

Age 82


YANZICK, Kenneth Keith “Duck”

Kenneth Keith “Duck” Yanzick, died February 5, 2012 at Bristol Heights Assisted Living in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

When Kenneth was diagnosed with cancer, the family wanted him to be with his brother Jim at Bristol Heights.


How Kenneth got the name “Duck”.

When he was very young he waddled up to his dad who said, “You walk like a duck”, and from that day on, his father never called him anything else.


Ken was born in Wallace, ID at the Providence Hospital on November 26, 1929, to John and Dorothy (Baldwin) Yanzick.

The family lived in many places throughout the Silver Valley.

They bought a farm in Camas, OR and worked it until the “Great Depression” hit and then moved back to the Silver Valley.

Ken went to grade school in the valley and high school in Kingston.

He enlisted in the Army.

He then came back to the valley and worked as a logger.

When his nephew, Bumper, bought a “North Idaho Jammer” in the late 70’s, he came to show him how it was done.

They had great times.

He also worked for the school district in Hillyard until his retirement.


Kenneth married Katherine K. Harms Bascetta on August 6, 1966.

They made their home in Pinehurst, ID.

They never had children together but her children became his.

They later moved to the state of WA, and lived there until Kay’s death in 2008.

They had a beautiful home in Chattaroy that they work endlessly on.


After Kay’s death, he came to live with his grandson and family in Cataldo.

He later moved to Hayden to be with his beloved friend, Jean Mason.


He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn May, his parents John and Dorothy, and his wife, Kay.


He leaves behind his brothers Jack (Mildred) Yanzick of Prescott, AZ, James Yanzick of Coeur d’Alene, ID; his nephews, Rob Yanzick of Prescott, AZ, Curtis “Bumper” (Debbie) Yanzick of Cataldo, ID; his niece, Pamela Skidmord of Costa Mesa, CA; his stepchildren: Lyndy Stevens of Spokane, WA, Penny Bratton of Harrison, ID, and Joey Bascetta III of San Francisco, CA; his grandchildren: Paula Dancy, Bryon (Tina) Bratton, Brandy (Gary) Frizzell, Jennifer Chan, and Ben Horwath; his great grandchildren: Taylor, Andy, and Emma.


Duck was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He was kind, always joking around, and making everyone laugh.

He was hardworking and would do anything for you.

We love you and will always miss you!

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines, Spokane Valley, WA.
