Obituary: Hoffman, Herbert A.

HOFFMAN, Herbert A.

(Age 101)

Born July 28, 1910 in Newark, NJ to Leonhard and Anna (Oaks) Hoffman, Herb passed away peacefully at Riverview Care Center February 23, 2012.

Herb was loved by all who knew him.

His devotion to his beloved wife, Mary, was without equal.

Long after Alzheimer’s left Mary without memory of her family, Herb demonstrated unconditional love and faithfulness by visiting daily to continue some of their normal routine.

Herb retired in 1975 after nearly 50 years at NJ Bell where he began his career as a coin box collector at the age of 15.

During that time, he received his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and was an Accounting Supervisor when he retired.

Herb challenged us all to be our best selves.

He was honest, kind and gentle and brought peace and security to our family.

He was a good soul who will be missed.

Herb was preceded in death by his mother and father, Leonhard and Anna Hoffman; and his son, Herbert Hoffman Jr.

He is survived by his children, Helen Whittaker, Mary Anne (Gerry) Fiorillo, Mark (Christine) McCabe, Karen (Ron Hoiland) McCabe and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Riverview Care Center and Terrace for the amazing love and respect they showed to Herb.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 2:30 P.M. in the Riverview Retirement Community Chapel, located at 1801 E. Upriver Dr., Spokane.

The family welcomes your attendance and suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Spokane.
