East Valley topples Pullman in wrestling

East Valley won six matches by way of forfeit and routed Pullman 57-19 in Great Northern League action Tuesday in Pullman.

The closest match of the night came at 182 pounds. The Knights’ Kenny Martinez edged the Greyhounds’ Shawn Field 8-6.

At 132 pounds, East Valley’s Jared Adams pinned Pullman’s Jamie Wolsborn in 48 seconds.

At 170 pounds, the Knights’ Taylor Watkins earned a pin over Zach Toyoda in 1:05.

The Greyhounds got wins from Roman Cox (120), Jake Staniszewski (138) and Bailey Poitra (145).

Staniszewski earned a 16-3 major decision over East Valley’s Timothy Riebe and Poitra shut out Tanner Bauman 6-0.

Cox pinned Collin Cunningham in 3:10.

• Cheney got six pins and benefited from four forfeits in a 67-6 win over West Valley in Cheney.

The Blackhawks had nine seniors compete, and all came away with victories.

Dakota Mauzay, wrestling at 138 pounds, collected Cheney’s quickest pin, taking down his opponent in 52 seconds.

At 120 pounds, Austin Hilderbrand won 11-0 for the Eagles’ lone victory.
