Agreed The Columbus Blue Jackets agreed to terms with right wing Jared Boll on a two-year, $2.1 million contract. The 26-year-old Boll had two goals and one assist with 126 penalty minutes in 54 games with the Blue Jackets in 2011-12. He ranked second on the club and 15th in the NHL in penalty minutes.
Re-signed The Pittsburgh Penguins and defenseman Matt Niskanen agreed to two-year, $4.3 million deal that will keep him with the NHL team until 2014. The 25-year-old Niskanen had four goals and 17 assists in 75 games last season.
Injured San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is recovering from what the team says is a minor wound suffered early Saturday. Smith’s wound was caused by a stabbing, according to sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The Santa Clara County (Calif.) sheriff’s office reported that deputies arrived at a large house party in San Jose shortly after 2 a.m. after receiving reports of gunshots. When they arrived, deputies found two people with gunshot wounds and another with stab wounds. All three were taken to hospitals, where they were treated for non-life- threatening injuries. • Jordan Hall, No. 1 on Ohio State’s depth chart at running back, will be out for about 10 weeks after undergoing surgery for a cut on the bottom of his right foot.

Announced The agent for Ryan Suter says the Nashville Predators defenseman will hit the NHL’s free-agent market. Neil Sheehy said he doesn’t know where Suter will sign, but added the player will keep the Predators “in the mix.”
Offered The Cleveland Cavaliers extended a $2.7 million qualifying offer to swingman Alonzo Gee, making him a restricted free agent. The club can match any offer made during the NBA’s free-agency signing period to Gee, who averaged 10.6 points in 63 games.
