Facebook Adds Wedding and Engagements to the Top of Your Newsfeed
Now, your friends and family can say ‘Congrats’ on your wedding and engagement news with the same lack of effort they use to tell you ‘Happy Birthday’
Facebook probably is the first place you went to announce your engagement and wedding news. A status update, a relationship change, then flocks of family and friend liking your activity and sending felicitations your way.
Now, Facebook plans to commoditize engagement and wedding news just the way it did with birthdays - by putting engagement and wedding activity at the top right of your news feed, alongside birthdays, events and Farmville requests.
Translation: The number of exclamation points on the “Congratulations!!!” message will belie the fact that the person sending their best just clicked on the box in the top right and quickly typed a message, just like all the old high school friends who wish you happy birthday each year. In addition to commenting, just like with birthdays, there’s also the option to see the friendship of the couple - photos, wall posts and other “public” data between the couple, assuming you’re friends with both people.
What do you think? A great way for people to receive exciting news about their friends, or just another way to send a no-effort message?
