Dust Devils score run in ninth inning to win
PASCO – The Tri-City Dust Devils caught up with the Indians three times Wednesday night then scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to down Spokane 6-5 in a Northwest League baseball game.
Francisco Sosa’s fly ball to right field off reliever Alec Asher (1-2) with one out and the bases loaded was dropped by Preston Beck (though scored as a hit) to bring in Rosell Herrera.
The Dust Devils’ victory spoiled a 3-for-4 night for Royce Bolinger, who had two doubles and three RBIs for the Indians. Three other Indians had two hits as the team outhit Tri-City 12-10.
Bolinger’s third hit, a line-drive double to left field, scored Hirotoshi Onaka in the sixth to give Spokane its last lead at 5-4. Tri-City tied it in the bottom of the inning with the help of two errors and a sacrifice fly.
Spokane led 3-2 in the fourth after Joe Maloney doubled with one out and scored with two outs on Onaka’s single, and added another run in the fifth when Bolinger was hit by a pitch and two outs later scored from third base on an error. But Tom Murphy slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to tie it at 4.
The Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Bolinger’s two-run double.
Herrera’s two-run single with two out tied the game for Yakima at 2 in the third.
