Obituary: Jakubiak, Henry John

Age 94


JAKUBIAK, Henry John
July 25, 1917 -
May 29, 2012

Passed away May 29, at the age of 94 and immediately ascended into high heaven, into light, grace and deep peace.

Henry was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 23, 1917 to Wadyslava Chrostowski Jakubiak and Joseph John Jakubiak.

He graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit in 1936.

He had a strong aptitude in electrical studies and devoted his time at Cass to those subjects.

He worked for the Ford Motor Company as a skilled mechanic until enlisting in the Army in 1941.

He was sent to officer candidate school and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

He fought in the Philippines and was headed to Japan as a part of the invasion force when the atomic bomb was dropped that ended the war.

He served honorably in the Pacific until the end of the war, at which time Henry was discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant.
While recovering from malaria during World War II in Australia, Henry met the love of his life, Alice Elizabeth Peters.

She was serving in the medical corps as an Army Nurse in Australia.

They were married on June 26, 1946 at St. Patrick Church in Walla Walla, Washington.
Henry and Elizabeth moved to Spokane where Henry attended Gonzaga University, from which he received a degree in electrical engineering.

He worked for Carter Miller Company as an engineer for a number of years.

He eventually started his own business, J&H Machinery Sales Inc, which provided grain elevator equipment and design to the farming community of the Inland Empire.

He retired in 1982 at the age of 65.
Henry and Elizabeth loved and raised six children: Ann Lane (Earl), Joe Jakubiak, Joyce Jakubiak (David Parks), Edward Jakubiak, Peter Jakubiak (Bobbi), Mary Owens (John) and nine grandchildren for whom he had the greatest love and concern.

He was preceded in death by Edward, his mother and father, two brothers William and Edward and two sisters Stella and Jenny.


A Vigil Service will be held Sunday, June 3, at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 4, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 3520 E. 18 Ave. Interment will be Tuesday, June 5, at 10:00 at Riverside Memorial Park, 211 N. Government Way.
