Williams’ Team USA fades in final day
NEWCASTLE, Country Down – Moscow, Idaho, and University of Washington golfer Chris Williams dropped his only Palmer Cup match on Saturday as the European team pulled off a stunning upset on the final day of the intercollegiate match-play tournament.
Europe won seven matches and halved the other on the third day of the tournament to rally for a 13.5-10.5 victory over the Americans at Newcastle, Country Down in Northern Ireland.
Williams lost 3 and 2 to Sebastian Cappelen. Cappelen took control of the match by winning three straight holes beginning at No. 11.
Williams had won a singles match on Friday and teamed for two victories on Thursday.
