Memorial services for Florence Fray, a Spokane resident for more than 60 years, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Rockwood South Hill retirement com-munity.

Cremation arrange-ments entrusted to HAZEN AND JAEGER FUNERAL HOME , with inurnment at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs.

Fray died February 27 at Rockwood.

Her son and daughter-in-law were at her bedside.

Mrs.

Fray was born Florence M. Kribs January 20, 1916 to Edwin and Mary Kribs of Wallace, Idaho.

She earned a B.A.

degree in European History from the University of Idaho in 1937 and a B.A.

in Library Science from the University of Washington in 1938.

Her first professional library position was in 1939 at the University of Idaho.

She later worked in libraries at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, Naval Operating Base Terminal Island (California) during World War II, and in Wallace, Idaho.

She worked at the Spokane County Library from 1950 to 1960, except for a period of 1953-54 when she was chief librarian at Fairchild Air Force Base.

She was appointed County Librarian in 1960.

She became assistant director at the Spokane Public Library in 1965 and retired from that position in 1979.

Mrs.

Fray was a past president of the Pacific Northwest Library Association.

She was honored in 1969 by Women in Journalism and Communications for her library work and community service.

Mrs.

Fray is survived by her son, Phillip Johnson, Seattle; two grandchildren, Aaron Johnson, Federal Way, and Amanda Johnson, Washington, D.C.; one great-grandson, Amaryah Johnson, Federal Way; plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fray, who passed away in 1980.
