Sunnyside Chr. 46, Mt. Rainier Luth. 39
Brandon Broersma scored nine of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as the two-time defending state-champion Knights ensured themselves a state trophy by pulling away from the Hawks.
Behind Trevor Wagenaar, who scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half, Sunnyside Christian jumped out to an early lead that reached double figures in the first quarter. But the Hawks clamped down, limited the Knights to six points in the second and third quarters to take a 32-31 lead entering the fourth quarter.
An early three-point play by Broersma put SC back on top for good, but it didn’t put the game away until the closing minutes.
