CC Spokane men win tournament opener

Preston Wynne came out firing from long range and finished with a game-high 37 points as Community Colleges of Spokane opened the NWAACC men’s basketball tournament Saturday at the Toyota Center in Kennewick with a 76-71 win over South Puget Sound (12-15).

Wynne, the Eastern Region MVP and defensive player of the year, hit 10 of 17 3-point shots, and also grabbed 10 rebounds in the win.

The Sasquatch (24-4) will face Peninsula (24-4) in the quarterfinals today at 4 p.m. The semifinals are Monday and the title game is set for Tuesday.

• Kaj Sherman scored 17 points and pulled down 17 rebounds as North Idaho College edged Eastern Utah 80-79 in overtime at Price, Utah.

Antoine Hosley led the Cardinals (23-7, 9-6 SWAC) with 18 points. Chase Flint scored 21 for Eastern Utah (16-13, 4-11).
