In brief: Businesses detroyed; arson suspected

A fire that destroyed two businesses in Kootenai County is being investigated as a possible arson.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 5648 N. Government Way in Dalton Gardens at 8:20 p.m. Friday to find a building fully engulfed. A 911 caller reported seeing someone running away from the area just as smoke was seen coming out of the building, according to a Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department press release.

The Helmut Outlet and a Kirby Vacuum store were destroyed in the fire.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department at (208) 446-1300.
