Our beloved mother, Allene M. Womble was a courageous fighter all her life, outliving her parents and sisters despite the fact she was born at 2 lbs, 12 oz on May 12, 1926 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA.
She joined her husband Cliff Womble in heaven on February 29, 2012.
Her given name “Allene” was created by adding the “E” to Allen Memorial Hospital to commemorate being the first incubator baby.
She had a 30-year career at the Crescent where she made many, many lasting friendships.
Allene loved traveling, books, puzzles, family and her 20-year membership to the Civic Theatre.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Minnie Albert, sisters Arliss O’Neal and Henrietta Stokes, and son-in-law Bruce Rankin (her good Buddy).
She is survived by her three children Linda Rankin, Jerry Womble (Janita), and Sheryl Womble; six grandchildren, Brian Rankin (Monica), Bradley Rankin (Katie), Kelly Womble, Brady Womble (Sherri), Rushell Thelen, all of Spokane, WA, James “Buddy” Smith (June) of Fairbanks, AK.
and 11 great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on March 6, 2012 from 9 am to 5 pm and again on March 7, 2012 from 9 am to noon.
A graveside service will be held at Spokane Memorial Gardens on March 7, 2012 at 1 pm.
