Diamondbacks defeat Mariners

PEORIA, Ariz. – Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz, a former Mariner, made his spring training debut on Friday, allowing a solo home run in an inning during Arizona’s 8-5 win over Seattle.

Five players homered at Peoria Sports Complex: Chris Young, Ryan Roberts, Aaron Hill and Rusty Ryal for Arizona and Carlos Peguero for the Mariners.

Mariners left- hander Jason Vargas, who is slated to be their No. 2 starter, allowed five runs in four innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Peguero hit his third home run of the spring, a solo shot off Putz in the fourth. Young also hit a solo home run, his second of the spring.
