Jessie Roberta

A long time Garfield Washington resident and a beloved sister, mother and grandmother, passed away to be with the Lord , March 6, 2012 at her home.

She was 95.

She lived a full and wonderful life that was a blessing to all who knew her, especially her kind and generous heart.

She loved being surrounded by her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

She was always there for her family and took the time to make life special.

There was always a sewing project, especially quilting; making sure every family member had a quilt.

On October 16, 1916 she was born to Robert and Mary Schuman six miles southeast of Garfield in a farm house.

June 1935 she married George Erwin Hathaway the day after she graduated from Garfield High School.

Their life was spent farming and raising three children.

She loved being a housewife and enjoyed cooking.

Roberta was active in the community, having achieved a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, former member of the Ladow Grange, Pythian Sisters, and Garfield Woman’s Club and involved with the Ladies Aid.

Roberta is survived by her siblings, Ruby Rice and Robert Schuman (Sharon); children, Sue Ulrick (David), Max Hathaway (Nancy), and Boyd Hathaway (JoAnn); nine grandchildren, Charlene Wagner (Tom), Cheryl Chilman (Tyler), Mercedes Johnson (Ryan), Celeste Gibbs (Carl), Jessie Hathaway, Sonja Hall (Travis), Anna McDermott, Pete Bono (Shayne), and Jennifer Williams (Steve); and 12 great grandchildren, Esmond, Luca, Elliona, Aislynn Gibbs, Mette Chilman, Wynifred Hall, Megan and Casey Bono, and Gabriella, Emma, Abi and Gianna Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, and brother Oscar Schuman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Garfield Christian Church with Rev.

King Rockhill officiating.

Burial will follow at the Garfield Cemetery with the order of the Eastern Star participating.

Memorials may be given to the Garfield - Farmington Ambulance and E.M.S.

at Garfield, WA.
