Racers chasing sweet result
Men’s NCAA tournament: Murray State basketball has experienced 25 straight winning seasons, won 23 OVC regular-season championships and 15 conference tournament titles, all without reaching a Sweet 16.
Now, for the second time in three years, the Racers and Donte Poole (pictured) are one win away.
“I can’t even put into words what that would mean,” coach Steve Prohm said.
After beating Colorado State 58-41 on Thursday, Murray meets Marquette at 2:15 p.m. today in Louisville.
Murray is expecting a supportive crowd.
“We do have a lot of people coming to the game, a lot of blue and gold,” senior Jewuan Long said. “Even the Kentucky fans, they’ve been supporting us.”
VCU looks to do it again
Men’s NCAA tournament: No matter the names stitched across the front of the opponents’ uniform, if there’s one thing VCU has proved during the last two seasons is that it cowers from no one.
The 12th-seeded Rams (29-6) get a chance today to add one more storied name to the list when they face No. 4 seed Indiana (26-8) in the third round of the South Regional.
Indiana, which won its first tournament game since 2007 on Thursday night, has not advanced to the round of 16 since 2002, when the Hoosiers reached the Final Four.
