In brief: Clean-up effort planned

COMSTOCK – Volunteers are needed for the Friends of the High Drive bluff trash cleanup Saturday.

Volunteers will meet at Bernard Street and High Drive and work from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are asked to bring leather gloves, dollies with straps or ropes and to be dressed for the weather. Approximately five piles of metal car parts and large debris needs to be removed.

Valley mall plans children’s event

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane Valley Mall will host Spring Kids Fest on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the food court.

Children ages 2 to 12 can enjoy crafts, games, face painting and prizes. And, from 11 a.m. to noon, the Easter Bunny will stop by for a special appearance.

The event is free and open to the public.

Golf groups offer scholarships

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Painted Hills Golf Course, along with the Painted Hills Men’s and Women’s Clubs will award five $1,500 scholarships to area students.

In April, one scholarship will be awarded through the Spokane Community Colleges Foundation and four scholarships will be awarded to applicants from Spokane Valley high schools. Students who apply for financial aid from the Community Colleges Foundation will automatically be considered for the scholarship. Applications for the high school scholarships are available in the guidance counselor office at Spokane Valley schools. Applications will also be available at Painted Hills Golf Course when the clubhouse opens.

Applications will be judged on school and community activities, leadership and a short essay. Applications are due April 10. They will be reviewed and finalists will be interviewed by scholarship committee members.
